IS LEDi – The Next Generation Longwall Lighting System

The Burn Brite IS LEDi is the latest innovation in lighting and safety from Ampcontrol for underground coal mines. Supporting the move towards autonomous operations, the IS LEDi not only provides general longwall illumination, but incorporates smart functionalities by warning of, and identifying machinery movements and potential risks to personnel. Designed specifically for use in underground coal mines, key components of the IS LEDi system are IECEx certified for Group I applications. The system comprises of three main components: the intrinsically safe lights, a Bluetooth gateway device and an interface module. Each light on the system is individually controlled using a Bluetooth mesh network. The lights can display seven colour variations, and a variety of flash sequences and brightness levels can be used to create highly visible warnings indicating no go zones and shield faults, positions of fire extinguishers and first aid stations.
