Oil quality testing is a cost-effective way of determining the health of your transformer with no need for downtime. 

The Ampcontrol oil testing laboratory provides access to a wide range of insulating oil analysis testing methods to keep you informed on the overall health of your transformer. The laboratory is compliant with ISO/IEC 17025 and holds NATA Accreditation (Accreditation No. 4669), with all work performed to Australian and international standards. 

We provide sampling services, or train your team to sample correctly, and supply robust sampling kits delivered Australia-wide.

• Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) — detects incipient thermal and electrical faults

• Oil quality and dielectric testing — dielectric strength, moisture, and acidity

• Acidity and oxidation testing — oxidation products and insulation ageing

Our engineering, testing and monitoring team is experienced in failure investigation on all types of high-voltage plants. We help our customers identify the cause of their equipment failure and liaise with the OEM to arrange rectification or warranty work. 

Our experts consolidate data from your transformers into an assessment that describes the transformer's condition, including failure risk. Our skilled team diagnoses issues and works with you to implement a repair plan. 

The remote condition monitoring service will provide the information required to assess a transformer's health and prioritise corrective measures to extend asset life, prevent failures, and ensure the safe operation of assets. 

We overhaul and upgrade power transformers up to 50MVA, 132kV, and 80 tonnes at our dedicated facility. Electrical diagnostics evaluate insulation and electrical integrity before work begins, so the scope matches the asset’s actual condition. Refurbishment can restore transformers to near ‘as new’ condition, while full replacement is reserved for units beyond economic repair. Our services include:

• Transformer upgrades

• Replacement of gaskets and service bushings

• Winding repairs and replacement across primary and secondary windings

• Controlled oven drying of windings

• Tank repairs and modifications, repainting, and vacuum and pressure testing

• Fitting of additional protection devices and cable boxes

We support a range of electrical and high-voltage testing for transformers, both on-site and in our dedicated transformer manufacturing facilities. 

To support transformer and high-voltage assets on-site, we maintain a comprehensive mobile high-voltage test capability (single-phase), including 36kV AC, 2000kV AC, and 720kV AC (resonance) mounted on a dedicated heavy vehicle. This capability is extended by several uncommitted high-voltage sources that can be transported to the site as required, ranging from 22kV AC to 100kV AC, as well as a 52kV AC p-p 3ph switchboard test set. 

We offer online and offline oil regeneration and filtration, along with single and multi-column mobile oil regeneration plants, portable filtration units and vacuum drying and de-gassing machines for larger transformers. 

We can arrange for the removal and transportation of transformer oil and associated material, including oil contaminated with PCBs. 

Transformer failures disrupt critical operations, and HV replacement lead times can run into months -making rapid response a commercial priority, not just a technical one. Our emergency field teams provide a rapid response to on-site failures, with safety measures in place from the first call to protect people and the wider network.
