Electrical Switchyards

Discover our reliable switchyards that efficiently handle voltage conversion and distribution, delivering optimal power to customers. With more than 55 years of electrical engineering experience, we provide end-to-end solutions from design development through to commissioning and 24/7 service support.

Custom switchyard design and manufacturing

We design, manufacture, and install custom electrical switchyards that route electrical energy across your transmission system at a single voltage level. Every switchyard is engineered to your project's specific power system requirements - from circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and earthing switches through to current transformers, busbars, and protective relays.

We can design, assemble, wire, and operationally test each unit in our Australian workshops before delivery, identifying issues in a controlled environment and reducing onsite construction time and risk. From pre-energisation testing of trip coils, air circuit breakers, and protection relays through to ongoing maintenance, we deliver reliability across the full lifecycle of your electrical system.

Key components of an electrical switchyard

A well-designed electrical switchyard houses a complete range of substation equipment and auxiliary apparatus to maintain safe, reliable operation across all operating conditions.

Circuit breakers

Circuit breakers are the primary switching apparatus in any switchyard. They interrupt high fault currents to protect equipment and the broader grid from damage. Modern switchyards may use air circuit breakers, vacuum circuit breakers, or SF6 gas circuit breakers, depending on voltage levels and system requirements.

Disconnect switches and earthing switches

Disconnect switches (isolators) provide physical separation in electrical circuits for safe maintenance of high-voltage equipment. Earthing switches connect de-energised apparatus to ground during maintenance, ensuring personnel safety and compliance with electrical safety standards.

Busbars

Busbars are the primary conductors that carry and distribute electrical energy between circuits within the switchyard. Single-busbar, double-busbar, or ring-bus configuration determines the system's switching flexibility and ability to maintain supply during maintenance or fault conditions.

Current transformers and voltage transformers

Current transformers and voltage transformers are instrument transformers that scale down high currents and voltages to safe, measurable levels for monitoring, metering, and protection systems.

Industries we serve

We engineer and deliver electrical switchyard solutions across mining, power generation, renewable energy, and heavy industrial applications throughout Australia. For a full overview of how we support power infrastructure for industrial customers, explore our dedicated capability page for other equipment.

Mining and resources

Surface and underground mining operations require reliable power distribution in remote, harsh locations. We meet the compliance and load demands of coal, critical minerals, and metalliferous mining projects, delivering switchyard infrastructure designed to maintain supply to critical mining circuits, ventilation systems, and processing equipment throughout the full project lifecycle.

Power generation and utilities

We design and manufacture switching infrastructure for conventional and renewable power-generating stations, accommodating grid connection and power distribution requirements for utility-scale development. Our electric power solutions manage the interface between the generation apparatus and the transmission system, enabling reliable power flow from generating stations to the grid.

Renewable energy

Solar farms, wind farms, and battery energy storage systems require specialised switching infrastructure for power collection and grid connection. Circuit breakers and protective relays within these installations automatically isolate faulty sections to maintain stability across connected circuits. Our renewable energy switchyard solutions support Australia's industrial transformation toward net zero — targeting long-life, high-reliability performance across the country's most ambitious energy projects.

Heavy industrial and infrastructure

Industrial facilities, data centres, and major infrastructure projects require custom high-voltage power distribution. We engineer switchyard solutions that create reliable, functional electrical infrastructure to accommodate complex load requirements that integrate seamlessly with existing substations, transformers, and distribution systems.
