Our Sustainability

Building a sustainable future

We’re dedicated to integrating sustainable practices throughout our energy solutions and business operations.

How Ampcontrol supports

Sustainable Development

At Ampcontrol, our goal is to lead the global energy revolution. We’ve placed sustainability at the forefront of our mission, with a commitment to addressing our six priority Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) out of the 17 proposed by the United Nations. Our goals have been chosen based on where we can make the most impact using our smart people, innovation partnerships and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Beginning at home

Our sustainable practices are woven into multiple facets of our business, beginning with our office and business operations.

Health & Wellbeing

Valuing our employees and providing them with a work environment that fosters learning and development, career pathways, flexibility, health and wellbeing is important to us. This is why we have established a wealth of initiatives to support them throughout their career with Ampcontrol.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Our free and confidential professional counselling support is available to our staff and their family members, providing them with timely mental health assistance for personal or work-related challenges year-round.

  • Health & Wellbeing Support Network: We provide on-the-ground assistance through our dedicated Physical First Aid Responder, Mental Health First Aid Responder and Health and Wellbeing Champion, ensuring the wellbeing of our staff in the workplace.

  • Injury Management & Return to Work: We support early intervention and offer a prompt response to workplace injuries and/or illnesses. We also facilitate returning to work in a timely and safe manner.

  • Employee benefits: We value the wellbeing of our staff and have employed a variety of benefits to ensure they are well-supported, including fitness subsidies, paid parental leave, and other initiatives that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Waste Reduction Initiatives

We have implemented a number of programs that help reduce our waste and use of single-use plastics in the workshop and office. These include:

  • Bin Trim: We signed up to the Bin Trim program in early 2022 to maximise our recycling and minimise our waste to landfill. One of the first steps in our Bin Trim efforts has been the introduction of communal bins—separated into landfill, recycling, paper/cardboard—and desktop mini bins. This will result in a waste reduction of 26,000 plastic bags per year.

  • 2025 National Packaging Targets: We signed up to Australia’s 2025 National Packaging Targets as part of our commitment to introduce more sustainable business practices. This program, managed by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), is leading the development of a circular economy for packaging within Australia. At our Cameron Park location, we’ve been creating our own hex wrap from recovered cardboard packaging. Hex wrap is a sustainable alternative to bubble wrap, which has allowed us to reduce the amount of unnecessary single-use plastic packaging we use.

Our sustainable manufacturing

In leading the global energy revolution towards net zero, we have established a set of key initiatives and actions across our sites, facilities and equipment, incorporating decarbonisation efforts into our manufacturing processes. These include:

  • The widespread rollout of rooftop solar PV on Ampcontrol operating sites and facilities.

  • The transition to renewable electricity purchases for Ampcontrol operating sites and facilities by 2025.

  • Energy efficiency and smart energy projects including LED lighting upgrades, equipment power monitoring and use of batteries to optimise our electricity usage.

  • The staged transition of Ampcontrol vehicle fleet, including passenger vehicles, utilities, and heavy vehicles to electric/renewable fuel sources.

  • The phased transition of Natural Gas heating at Ampcontrol operating sites and facilities to renewable electricity heating.

Supporting our community

While we are driving global change in the energy sector, we’re also committed to assisting our local communities.

We’re passionate about providing access to vital resources for our remote neighbours, developing advanced solutions such as a solar-powered water treatment plant, Gilghi, to serve as a viable source of water.

Not only do we support our community through our energy solutions, but we also sponsor a number of organisations and charities, such as the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, Lifeline Hunter, and Newcastle Jets, as our way of creating impactful change at a local level.

Leading decarbonisation efforts

We support our customers in their decarbonisation efforts, utilising electrification solutions and renewable technologies to facilitate their energy needs. With this in mind, we have crafted a variety of innovative and sustainable offerings, from battery-powered personnel carriers (DRIFTEX) and hybrid diesel-electrical marine vessels through to hydrogen energy storage solutions (LAVO).

We’re also proud members of the Clean Energy Council, supporting the movement towards renewable energy sources.

Challenging the future

We’re trusted by our customers to future-proof their business and are committed to helping them adopt more sustainable solutions, progressing industry towards decarbonisation.

Through collaboration and innovation partnerships with universities and the brightest minds in energy, we’re constantly challenging the status quo so that we can see net zero become a global reality.
