Climate Action Plan

Climate Action Plan

Through our commitment to SDG 13 Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts we have developed a considered Climate Action Plan to guide Ampcontrol, as well as our suppliers, customers, and community, as we decarbonise and help to make net zero a reality.

The plan comprises three parts—mitigation, adaptation, and advocacy. We will be actively pursuing ways to reduce emissions connected to Ampcontrol, updating our facilities, solutions, and systems to lower our carbon footprint, and championing global climate efforts through community engagement.

Net zero goals

Our Net Zero Roadmap

We’re determined to play our role in the global mitigation effort through a comprehensive roadmap that will guide us towards achieving net zero by 2040.

We have set challenging emissions reduction targets which aim to go beyond the agreed decarbonisation pathways to limit warming to well below 2 degrees (preferably 1.5 degrees) on pre-industrial levels. These targets include:

SCROLL
2020
Emissions baseline

2030
60% reduction in operating emissions

2040
Net zero emissions

What we’ve achieved so far:

Emissions are down

Operational emissions are down 30% in 2023, putting us 12% ahead of the pathway to our 2030 interim target

Solar powered

Rooftop solar has been rolled out on Ampcontrol operating sites and facilities

Committed to renewables

We've signed a 10-year renewable power purchase agreement for our NSW sites (excluding Warabrook and Callaghan)

Energy Efficient

Optimisation of electricity usage through energy efficiency and smart energy projects, including LED lighting upgrades and equipment power monitoring

A green fleet

Implementation of a low emissions vehicle policy and transition plan for the Ampcontrol vehicle fleet initially focused on our passenger vehicles

Electrification of our sites

Phased transition of Natural Gas heating at Ampcontrol operating sites and facilities to renewable electricity heating

Climate Change Operational Resilience and Capacity Building

Our sustainability strategy involves adaptation initiatives that address climate risks. We’re actively establishing frameworks that will build our operational resilience and capacity for an increasing climate, ensuring the long-term efficiency and durability of our facilities and equipment.

From 2022, we have been undertaking climate-focused risk reviews at an enterprise leveland committed to undertaking operational climate risk reviews for our sites. We are working with a leading climate consultancy to develop this capability further, which involves delivering training to our site Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) representatives, undertaking further enterprise and operational risk reviews, embedding mitigations where possible, and ensuring that residual risks are contemplated.

Using Our Trusted Voice

We’re amplifying our voice in the community, using our standing to work towards a more climate-positive future and impact for generations to come.

We proudly host delegates at our sites to showcase our innovations, raise awareness of our decarbonisation efforts, and encourage further advancements in the industry. Our keynote speakers contribute to events including the Climate Smart Engineering Conference, sharing our advanced solutions, such as our HiSAPS, and hybrid diesel-electric boat, that can contribute to emissions reductions across many industries.

We believe facilitating the energy transition takes collaboration, and we have partnered with leading climate change solutions think tank, Beyond Zero Emissions, to support their goal of an emissions-free future.
