The first Kiosk Substation delivered to the private owner-operated Roy Hill Iron Ore Mine.
BACKGROUND:
This mega iron ore mine is in the Pilbara, Western Australia. The mine site includes a conventional open pit, bulk mining operation from multiple production benches, a wet processing plant with a single line, and a heavy haul railway to the port.
Roy Hill looks for suppliers who actively identify innovation and continuous improvement opportunities. Ampcontrol’s proven designs, innovations, and manufacturing credentials made them the ideal supplier.
In 2023, after of years of supporting Roy Hill across site with several retrofitted Ampcontrol Transformers, Ampcontrol was approached to design and construct a substation for the Roy Hill Mines Services Workshop. The Services Workshop wanted a custom design to accommodate their expansion plan, using equipment proven under demanding mine site conditions, ensuring continuity of supply and maximum product lifespan.
SOLUTION
The 1MVA Kiosk Substation [5200mm(L) x 2100mm(W) x 2500mm(H)] is new for Western Australia and new for Roy Hill. It was manufactured at the Ampcontrol dedicated transformer facility in Tomago, New South Wales, and transported to Western Australia, a 4,500km journey, for installation and commissioning.
The in-house solution, from design to construction to delivery, ensured a seamless project that was delivered on budget and on time.
This is the first custom-made Kiosk Substation delivered to Western Australia. It is IP-rated to withstand the tough Pilbara environment and ensure optimal productivity for years to come.
