BACKGROUND
The customer required a comprehensive overhaul of their longwall electrical system ahead of a return to production. The scope extended beyond a traditional longwall overhaul, requiring:
- Replacement of critical enclosures with new, re‑handed Exd assemblies
- Overhaul of every electrical component across the entire package
- Rapid delivery within a condensed schedule
- Multi‑discipline engineering, testing, and commissioning support
- Cross‑site collaboration across Ampcontrol’s national operations
The project demanded precision, speed, and seamless coordination across Australia.
SOLUTION
To meet the customer’s requirements, Ampcontrol mobilised teams from nine operations across NSW, QLD and VIC, delivering a highly integrated solution that covered engineering, manufacturing, overhaul, testing, installation, and commissioning assistance.

Custom Equipment & Overhauls
- New Exd (re‑handed) enclosures – built by Mining Solutions, NSW
- Complete pump electrics overhaul – by Mining Solutions QLD and Underground Field Service NSW and QLD
- Overhaul Longwall substation – completed by Mining Solutions QLD and Power Infrastructure NSW
- Monorail and face power cables – manufactured and overhauled by Cables NSW and Cables QLD
- Main power transformers – overhauled by our Mining Solutions QLD and Power Infrastructure NSW
- Lighting enclosures and lights – upgraded and overhauled by Ringwood, VIC
Development Equipment – built by Mining Solutions, NSW included:
- 5 x 1kV FLP 8 Outlet OCS DCBs
- 4 x 11kV/1.05kV FLP 4 Outlet OCS 2MVA Substations
- 4 x 11kV FLP 2 Outlet Section Isolators
Control, Automation & Monitoring
- iMAC and VAA system overhauls – delivered by Applications, Cameron Park
- Gas monitoring system – completed by Applications, Cameron Park
- WiFi system integration – in collaboration with a 3rd party provider
Engineering & Project Delivery
- Functional safety reviews - completed by our in house functional safety team in NSW
