Industry carries on EMC vision for electrification

IndustryCollaborations

The Electric Mine Consortium (EMC), since its establishment in 2020, has collaborated with industry leaders and member companies to accelerate progress towards a fully electrified zero CO2 and zero particulates mine. With a strong foundation established and clear plans in motion, the EMC has come to a natural conclusion, leaving the industry well prepared to advance electrification.

Rod Henderson, Ampcontrol Managing Director & CEO, said, “Ampcontrol has been a proud member of the EMC since its conception. The EMC created a platform for leaders, peers, and some of the best minds in the mining industry to collaborate on accelerating the progress of electrification.”

To support this vision, Ampcontrol has collaborated with industry to deliver new technologies and custom-engineered solutions to meet customer needs. These include:

  • DRIFTEX, an underground electric vehicle customised for the coal sector, uses a clean energy alternative to diesel. The battery technology in DRFITEX earned Ampcontrol an industry-voted award at the Mine Electrical Safety Conference held in Brisbane in June. The technology is a world first and was developed through engagement with customers and industry to meet their demand for reduced carbon emissions.
  • MegaWatt Charger, a high-capacity charging technology that simultaneously charges multiple vehicles, from light passenger to large haul dump trucks, reducing charging time and operational impact.

“The EMC leaves a strong legacy of advancing electrification through the member aspirations it has influenced, the initiatives it has developed, and the networks it has created. We look forward to continuing to build on these collaborative relationships to deliver innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology that make electrifying mining operations a reality,” added Mr Henderson.

The Electric Mine Consortium will officially resolve on 30 September 2024.
