Apprentices Sparking The Way For A Clean Future

The Australian Government has made a commitment of net zero emissions and our New Energy apprentices are part of the solution to achieve this. Hon Brendon O’Connor MP, Minister for Skills and Training, made an announcement on Wednesday 26 April 2023 at Tighes Hill TAFE campus to extend the Fee-Free TAFE initiative beyond 12 months. The Fee-Free initiative is a joint venture between the Australian and the New South Wales governments to provide free training to individuals commencing their courses between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023 through TAFE NSW. Hon Brendon O’Connor MP said the Fee-Free initiative is focused on priority courses that have a skill shortage to help employers fill that need. “Clean energy industries are the future for our workers, and include solar installation, large-scale renewable projects, electric vehicles, green hydrogen and renewable manufacturing,” he says. “That’s why the Australian Government is spending $95.6 million over nine years to support 10,000 New Energy Apprenticeships. There are currently 6,635 apprentices in training in the Hunter, including New Energy apprentices who commenced from 1 January 2023.” Many of Ampcontrol 67 apprentices are part of the New Energy Apprenticeships program, making them eligible to receive up to $10,000 during their Australian Apprenticeship. Carl Dodd, Ampcontrol Electrical Apprentice who was present for the announcement, said the training provided by TAFE gives him hands-on experience that can be used in his everyday role at Ampcontrol. “Ampcontrol is a good company to work with because they cater for work and study and for you to expand your career path to do whatever you want,” Carl says. “TAFE is a good start for me to get my foot in the door in the renewable sector,” he added.
