2018 marks 100 years since Wallacetown Engineering Company Limited was established, later known as Allenwest Wallacetown. This proudly Scottish company was founded with a simple purpose in mind: to supply mechanical engineering services to repair equipment for Ayrshire collieries. As the mining industry developed, and the need for more sophisticated electrical power grew, the business began manufacturing flameproof switchgear designed to contain methane explosions.
The road to expansion saw the business begin exporting in the 1930s and soon it became the trusted name in flameproof switchgear. Many customers recognised the value of Allenwest Wallacetown’s product because it had been built with a simple philosophy in mind: provide electrical equipment that requires minimal maintenance. For the growing global coal market, with its high capital investment costs, this approach ensured Allenwest Wallacetown’s products would be someof the best regarded in the industry.
